Maintenance Laborer

Essential Functions:
- Fosters and affirms the mission and values of the
Sisters of St. Francis.
- Performs routine maintenance on building interior
and exterior.
- Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe
situations. Take appropriate action to ensure safety of themselves and others
in the building.
- Collaborates with the maintenance team and other
shared services staff in meeting the needs of the residents.
- Maintains current and accurate documentation of all
the maintenance requests.
- Carpentry work such as building a frame, repairing
school desks, repairing window frames and dressers.
- Painting and preparation of inside and outside
walls including scraping, sanding, plastering and trim work.
- Demonstrates knowledge of fire and safety plans
and use of safety devices.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures found in
the employee handbook and procedure manuals.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities for personal growth and development.

An international congregation, the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity was founded in the Netherlands by Mother Magdalen (Catherine) Damen. While working as a domestic in the Belgian town of Maaseik, Catherine became acquainted with Franciscan spirituality, and made her perpetual profession in the Franciscan Third Order Secular in 1817. She and her tertiary companions taught religion, needlework, and visited the sick. This was preparation for later work with the neglected children of Heythuysen, the small Dutch village that became the birthplace of the congregation.
