Benefits Program Worker II on our Outstation Team. The BPW II-CCIBH Outstation is a non-teleworking position. Workstation hours will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, at CIBH, 224 Great Bridge Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23320.
- Determines eligibility for Medicaid programs, including processing applications, renewals, changes and interims within 2 days of receipt of necessary verifications.
- Assists clients with obtaining needed verifications.
- Scans and indexes documents.
- Communicates daily with CIBH staff to answer questions and function as a consultant and subject matter expert for benefit programs.
- Partners with other department staff to ensure timely and accurate processing for other programs.
- Makes referrals to other service providers when appropriate.
- Schedules appointments and meets face-to-face with clients to conduct interviews and explain entitlement programs rules, how to apply, client rights and responsibilities, etc.
- Enters data in appropriate state systems and CIBH client record.
- Collects, organizes, analyzes, and documents data in determination of most beneficial assistance plan for client; checks data calculations for accuracy; determines or re-determines program(s) for which eligible.
- Grants or denies benefits and notifies recipient and CIBH staff of determination.
- Plans, manages, and implements case actions.
- Enters or updates information/data in computer database; runs VEC and DMV checks on applicants/clients.
- Have strong attention to detail and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Attends staff, team, committee, and other professional meetings to exchange information; meets with general public and community organizations to discuss programs for area of responsibility.
- Serves as on-call Shelter duty.
- Attends or conducts staff, committee, team, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional seminars or conferences to improve professional skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
This position works CIBH on-site 8 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday (schedule may vary depending on operational needs) and may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term departmental needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Interviews customer and conducts assessment of eligibility for services; explains available programs and services; assists with completion of application process.
- Provides direct services for emergency/short term needs; locates and coordinates community resources and makes referrals to community agencies.
- Dictates narrative of case; completes computer forms to establish case on various computer systems; analyzes available information and determines and recommends client eligibility.
- Interacts and coordinates with employers and outside professional agencies, such as medical facilities, court services, lawyers, schools, and funeral homes, to provide services for client.
- Examines public assistance records/cases for completeness and accuracy; reviews accounts payable to ensure accuracy and timeliness of assistance payments.
- Gathers and compiles information/data for periodic and special reports.
- Stays abreast of federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations for area of responsibility.
- Performs routine office tasks such as typing correspondence, data entry, filing, telephoning, faxing, and photocopying; maintains record system for area of responsibility.
- Attends staff, team, committee, and other professional meetings to exchange information; meets with general public and community organizations to discuss programs for area of responsibility.
