Key Responsibilities

Strategy Alignment for Transport Operations & Team

  • Manage and ensure the timely and successful execution of all strategic initiatives and tactical plans for fleet growth and services.
  • Collaborate with direct reports, the VP of NECO, the Transportation Operations Manager, and other department heads to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in DOT, regulatory, and compliance matters to ensure safe and legal operations in all markets, including research and engagement with necessary experts as we expand into new markets.

Leadership & Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee all transportation services for NECO Petroleum and third-party customers, including services from third-party carriers.
  • Structure, lead, and manage the NECO Transport driver team to align with the vision and goals of NECO Petroleum and NECO Transportation.
  • Optimize equipment use, maintain a replacement schedule, and manage the budgeting process for capital requests.
  • Maintain clean, presentable, and well-maintained business premises, equipment, and properties.
  • Hire and maintain a workforce adequate to meet NECO Petroleums growing needs, balancing common carrier and owner-operator services.
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings with industry-specific speakers and trainers, ensuring all drivers attend at least 10 out of 12 annual meetings.
  • Evaluate prospective, new, and existing drivers to meet efficiency and safety standards, involving weekly travel to customer locations for firsthand reviews.
  • Order driver uniforms and ensure daily compliance with uniform and safety vest policies.
  • Manage all equipment preventative maintenance and related documentation.
  • Assess, purchase, and implement on-board camera equipment and technology for driver communication, performance monitoring, safety compliance, and transaction processing
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance of the fleet including daily maintenance and repair, regular preventative maintenance schedules, VKs / tank tests, and other periodically mandated services to keep our fleet in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This responsibility includes the efficient documentation of each of these maintenance items.

Financial Management

  • Collaborate with the HR department in managing insurance carrier relationships for the fleet.
  • Work with the Transportation Operations Manager to create and manage budgets in line with goals set by the VP of NECO, including managing the Transportation profit and loss statement.
  • Meet monthly KPIs and maintain fair freight rates and assessorial charges to ensure required gross margin and net income, seeking new business opportunities with SVP approval.

Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations related to our business, including IFTA/NYHUT and tax reporting, prioritizing the safety of associates, communities, and the company.
  • Hire and train drivers and associates to maximize efficiencies and compliance with all regulations and NECO standards.
  • Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all processes, reviewing and updating them annually as necessary.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Achieve Green Success for Annual Initiatives and Quarterly Priorities.
  • Meet the goals and KPIs of the Transportation and Distribution Teams, ensuring timely product delivery and satisfactory dispute resolution.
  • Maintain the departments annual budget within the guidelines provided by the VP of NECO.
  • Ensure zero violations from federal, state, or local governments.

  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and presentable fleet, coaching drivers on equipment care.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a talented team, ensuring business demands are met without the consistent physical presence of other leadership in the Buffalo office

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business or equivalent logistics leadership experience.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience in a high-demand, fast-paced logistics/trucking company.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the commercial trucking industry, including hazardous materials transport.
  • Ability to work independently from headquarters with a clear understanding of company strategy and goals.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team towards goal achievement.
  • Strong prioritization, multitasking, time management, and organizational skills in a high-pressure environment.
  • Valid Drivers License, Class A, and Hazmat Endorsements are strongly preferred.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the equipment used to safely deliver petroleum products including the tractor, trailer, tires, pump / PTO, hoses, fittings, valves, and vapor recovery units, and the ability to build and maintain the proper specifications and weights for the same, and the ability to effectively negotiate the purchase price, sales price, and maintenance cost of the same.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge and demonstrated ability to train and maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance related to the transportation of hazardous material.
