Everyone does not have the ability and skill set for difficult skilled and technical work relating to the repair, installation, maintenance, and construction of municipal wastewater gravity systems, wastewater force mains and laterals, and Chesapeake Department of Public Utilities recognizes that.
Not to mention, if you have basic knowledge of pipe repair techniques and maintenance of sewer systems is a plus!

- An Equipment Operator performs difficult semi-skilled work in service, maintenance, and/or repair of gravity and force main sanitary sewer lines; and maintenance and repair of multiple assets within a sewer pumping station.
- Assists in the unstopping of sanitary sewer mainline and service laterals.
- dump truck and other light to medium duty equipment.
- Equipment Operator operates motor equipment to transport materials, tools equipment, and personnel to job sites and to remove debris or other materials from job sites.
- Operates hand and power tools and equipment to support maintenance operations such as debris removal, digging or filling and other maintenance tasks.
- Equipment Operator assist in the operation of specialized motor equipment to support City operations such as tanker truck, vacuum trucks, dump trucks, backhoes and other specialized operations.
- Inspects motor equipment and performs minor maintenance reports malfunctions to supervisor.
The Equipment Operation position requires a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol Testing.
Some night work may also be required.
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
