Property & Evidence Coordinator
POLICE SUPPORT
The Property & Evidence Coordinator is responsible for the handling and production of requests from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, City Attorney’s office, Courts and private attorneys for audio/video recordings from the police department.
The Property & Evidence Coordinator will maintain video and audio evidence files.
Primary tasks of the Property & Evidence Coordinator will be researching, locating, reviewing, redacting, and coping videos to required media formats in compliance with established regulations. Information is released upon request.
Other related responsibilities of Property & Evidence Coordinator:
- Prepares recorded evidence information for use, presents to others, and testifies about evidence in court. May be requested or subpoenaed to testify in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings.
-Monitors and researches laws, rules, procedures, and emerging technologies to develop and recommend improved policy, methodologies and procedures for collection and information development.
- Maintains knowledge base of current laws and policies to help minimize liability on the City of Chesapeake and Police Department.
- Conducts administrative functions such as recording statistical information, compiling reports, performing specialized studies, coordinating with other agencies or the public, and maintaining logs and forms.
- Creates standard operating procedures for video evidence, archiving and maintaining recordings and related documentation.
May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
