Position Overview: Quarry Loader Operator
- Ensure safe, efficient, and proper operation of heavy construction equipment to lift and transport materials to and from storage or processing areas to feed conveyors, hoppers, chutes, and load trucks or rail cars.
- May be called upon at discretion of the Plant Manager/Shift Supervisor to perform any other duties assigned and to assist other departments if necessary. Additional duties as assigned or required
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Operate straight or articulated rubber – tired, tractor-type vehicle with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop
- Perform daily pre-shift procedures
- Communicate with and cooperate with truckers and customers as required
- Perform equipment maintenance on a routine basis, i.e., lubrication, fueling and cleaning loader
- Wear a hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection and respirator as needed
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- High School or GED
- Successful completion of MSHA/OSHA Training
Work Requirements
- Thorough operational knowledge and skills of specific equipment to be operated
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently
- Ability to service the assigned equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Basic mechanical skills needed.
- Must possess the ability to properly splice and maintain conveyor belts.
- Must be able to identify areas of containment.
- Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills
- Able to perform all duties without a direct threat of injury to the individual or others.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Demonstrates safe, productive job performance.
- Ability to communicate effectively with and work well with other personnel.
- Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions and deal with simple problems.
- Ability to read English.
- Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in reports, manuals and regulations.
- Ability to Read & Report Various Measurements
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Work Requirements
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Ability to work scheduled overtime and weekends and occasional night shifts.
- Available for emergency overtime when the need arises. This may include occasional weekend hours.
