Position: Heavy Equipment Operator
Reports to: Site Manager
Shift: Day Shift

Summary:
Primarily operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, material handlers, and loaders, to move materials to support a shredding operation. Safely drive and maneuver equipment into position for unloading trucks, as well as loading and dumping materials. Stockpile material at the facility’s storage building and haul shredded materials to load trailers as required. Perform daily equipment inspections and monitor and maintain fluid levels. Assist mechanic with basic service and repairs as needed. Maintain good housekeeping throughout the facility.
What you’ll be contributing:
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Safely, responsibly, and proficiently operate and load equipment for the movement of raw material to and around the facility while observing all safety rules.
- Operate assigned equipment to feed material into processing system.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the shredder and mobile equipment.
- Expected to operate equipment with a high degree of competency, skill, and proficiency.
- Grease, oil, and perform minor repairs on equipment.
- Conducts daily equipment inspections. Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.
- Organize and plan maintenance each day. Prepare for scheduled maintenance.
- Follow all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Follow established traffic patterns avoiding road hazards and other hazardous conditions.
- Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors/other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on system.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- All other duties as assigned.

To succeed in this position, you will need:

Preferred High School Diploma

Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Operating heavy equipment – load and/or haul truck, or related experience

Mechanical knowledge of equipment used, machines and tools, including their uses, repair of and maintenance.

Shredding, mobile equipment, and/or cement manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
What to expect in a cement environment:
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
