The City of Chesapeake is seeking a Wireless/Radio Engineer (P25). They will support the Wireless Communications Manager in all aspects of the Core Chesapeake Radio System. In addition, they would act as a secondary point of contact in all aspects of the radio system for both the core infrastructure and Radio end devices.
Job Duties include:
- Maintain Radio system networking and infrastructure to include Tower location facilities, Microwave Backhaul, Cisco switching Network, Power distribution system/UPS, and Radio system Hardware. Ensure radio system readiness by performing system call testing on P25 LMR systems, VHF, and 800 MHz backup systems.
- Create and trouble shoot LMR Radio Templates and personalities.
- Work with Radio system contract integrators when needed to maintain system readiness.
- Work with Wireless Communications Manager as needed on city LoRaWan, and CBRS related projects.
- Provide mutual aid response and coordination of wireless communications devices and systems between multiple jurisdictions and organizations.
- Analyzes user requests for new or improved wireless communications systems.
- Research current wireless communications technologies and recommend solutions to user problems or needs. Monitors trends and new developments in wireless communications and assists in the development of plans, policy, and procedures for wireless communications systems operations.
- Modifies existing software to improve operations, consolidate programs, reduce complexity, or otherwise improve information system operations.
- Assists users with information requirements and designs report formats to satisfy user needs. Assists users with problems with Wireless communications systems involving hardware or software difficulties; Troubleshoots and repairs system hardware and software problems.
- Provides orientation or initial/follow on training for radio system users. Provide radio system and network administration and security; controls user access to systems; adds and deletes users and assigns passwords as required.
- Performs administrative functions such as maintaining hardware and software inventories or other records, assisting with budgets, monitoring materials and expenditures, ordering materials and supplies, compiling, and preparing specifications for new systems, maintaining system documentation, conducting studies, preparing reports, and other related tasks.
- Attends or conducts staff or training meetings to exchange information attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills; serves on committees and boards engaged in wireless communications systems activities.
