ESSSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary
- Provides general care for animals in the shelter, including watering, feeding, grooming, performing routine tests and exams, and wound treatment.
- Cleans cages/kennels housing animals.
- Responsible for disease recognition, wound treatment, and records maintenance.
- Work according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.
- Performs daily inspections of animals; completing an animal count and sick list.
- Administers prescription medication under direction of a veterinarian and routinely gives vaccinations and determines movement of animals into adoption areas.
- Interacts with the public to provide information on shelter animals or to assist with adoptions.
- Transports animals to a veterinarian or groomer as directed.
- Assists in euthanasia as directed by a Supervisor.
- Performs maintenance on the building as directed.
- Performs routine record keeping and animal intakes.
- Works closely with workforce and community service and provides direction when needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
GENERAL STANDARDS
Data Involvement- Compares or inspects items against a standard.
Interpersonal/People Involvement- Follows instructions and orders of Supervisor. Communicates and assists the public.
Reasoning Requirements- Performs semi-routine work solving occasional problems.
Mathematical Requirements- Performs basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
Language Requirements- Reads basic sentences, instructions, or work orders; writes basic sentences and completes uncomplicated job forms; speaks sentences using basic grammar.
Mental Requirements- Performs simple, repetitive manual, clerical, or operating tasks following a few definite procedures; performs minor short term planning; requires little attention for accurate results.
Decisions/ Supervisory Control- Guides others making decisions, affecting the individual and a few coworkers.
