Chesapeake Department of Human Services is seeking a Family Services Supervisor with the ability to engage and synergize a team of Family Services professionals to fulfill our mission of helping people triumph over poverty, abuse, and neglect to shape strong futures for themselves, their families, and communities. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The purpose of the position is to supervise Family Service Specialists and direct program overview of services to vulnerable adults’ age 60 years or older or 18 to 59 and incapacitated. The programs includes; Long-Term Care Screenings, Assisted Living Facility Screenings and Assessments, Companion Care, Adult Foster Homes, Adult Protective Services and Guardianship case management of incapacitated adults. This position provides leadership, direction, budget and reporting, planning, monitoring, and evaluation of work activities, and program assignments in order to manage and implement adult services timely and within state and local mandates.
Duties include but not limited to:
  • Preparation and implementation of operating procedures within the unit to ensure an efficient workflow; day-to-day guidance to Family Service Specialists and Assistants on case related issues, policies and procedures, agency initiatives, and acceptable levels of quality and quantity in the delivery of services.
  • The position is also responsible for the effective supervision and administration of staff development, performance management, employee relations, and evaluation of resource needs and management of effective deployment of resources.
  • Support staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.
  • Interacts/coordinates with other agencies, organizations, or the courts to provide services for clients.
  • Oversees, reviews, and approves expenditures for assigned area; provides fiscal data for preparation of annual budgets; ensures timely payment of accounts payable.
  • Maintains and review Peer Place information system; processes daily paperwork including reports, documents memos, and personnel information.
  • Monitors program compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations, and laws; monitors referrals and notifications.
  • Attends or conducts staff, committee, team, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional seminars or conferences to improve professional skills.
  • This position works in unison with the Adult Protective Supervisor to provide supervisory guidance and responsibility for the protection of abused and neglected adults from endangering situations and provides monthly staff supervision of after-hours on-call duty of Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services.

TYPICAL TASK
  • Supervises Social Workers and support staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.
  • Conducts interviews or investigations and makes client/resident and family assessments; formulates and implements plan of action; documents progress.
  • Interacts/coordinates with other agencies, organizations, or the courts to provide services for clients/residents.
  • Oversees, reviews, and approves expenditures for assigned area; provides fiscal data for preparation of annual budgets; ensures timely payment of accounts payable.
  • Gathers and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for area of responsibility.
  • Participates in development and implementation of policy and procedures for area of responsibility; interprets same for staff as needed.
  • Maintains record system for area of responsibility; processes daily paperwork including reports, documents, memos, and personnel information.
  • Serves as information resource for clients/residents, students, and professionals.
  • Monitors program compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations, and laws; monitors referrals and notifications.
  • Serves as emergency duty on-call Supervisor.
  • Attends or conducts staff, committee, team, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional seminars or conferences to improve professional skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
