As a Network Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in realizing our vision for a connected and technologically advanced city. In addition to supporting our fiber optic network, you will also be instrumental in managing and optimizing our wireless network infrastructure, including LoRaWAN and CBRS LTE technologies. These wireless networks are integral to enabling smart city applications, IoT devices, and innovative digital services that will enhance quality of life and drive sustainable growth in Chesapeake.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain technical operation of the transport network.
  • Designs, recommends, and implements core and access network elements.
  • Install and configure network elements.
  • Perform level III troubleshooting of network problems.
  • Perform level III/IV troubleshooting of customer escalations.
  • Maintain documentation of the network.
  • Work with vendors to specify equipment and place orders.
  • Coordinates with vendor service personnel on projects and maintenance.
  • Work with vendors on resolving network and equipment issues.
  • Direct service personnel in executing projects and conducting network maintenance. (Position has no authority in tangible employment actions including hiring, firing, promoting, reassigning significantly different tasks, or causing changes to benefits but may be involved in directing day-to-day operations of employees).
  • Coordinates with customers to integrate services.
  • Designs and recommends solutions to customer needs.
  • Reviews and interprets network alarms.
  • Identifies and plans action to properly clear network alarms.
  • Performs software upgrades to network elements.
  • Meets with customers as required for service delivery/support.
  • Trains operations personnel on network monitoring and maintenance.
  • Documents all projects and changes per company guidelines.
  • Coordinates with vendors on equipment purchases, requests, equipment returns and repairs.
  • Creates purchase requests for equipment and services.
  • Provides technical support to internal departments for special projects.
  • Ability to maintain reliable, predictable, and reasonable attendance.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
  • Must be available for afterhours work (subject to call outs and on-call rotation to include holidays, nights and weekends) which would include working fair share of all necessary overtime.
  • Work with various departments on special projects.
  • Maintain vehicles assigned to Department.
