ESSSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary

  • Provides general care for animals in the shelter, including watering, feeding, grooming, performing routine test and exams, and wound treatment.
  • Cleans cages/kennels housing animals.
  • Performs daily inspections of animals; completing an animal count and sick list.
  • Administers prescription medication under direction of a veterinarian and routinely gives vaccinations and determines movement of animals into adoption areas.
  • Assessment of animals for adoption suitability.
  • Interacts with the public to provide information on shelter animals or to assist with adoptions.
  • Transports animals to a veterinarian or groomer as directed.
  • Maintains euthanasia certification.
  • Performs maintenance on the building as directed.
  • Performs routine record keeping and animal intakes.
  • Trains and oversees new shelter attendants, workforce, and community service.
  • The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
