Position Overview

Individual is responsible to monitor the machinery and processes needed to ensure proper operations for the sand and gravel plant to batch, crush, or segregate materials. Performs daily plant start-up check throughout the plant. Communicates with Plant Superintendent and Plant person. Observes (in control room) control-panel/computer screens to monitor accuracy in weighing and mixing aggregate, cement, and water to produce concrete; or to control feeding, crushing, and sifting machinery in sand and gravel plant. Observes gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications. May assist in repair and maintenance tasks using hand-tools, power tools, and welding equipment. May operate heavy equipment as needed and qualifications allow.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

•      Operate sand and gravel plant to optimum production.

•      Perform Quality Control testing to ensure all products meet specifications.

•      Cleans and maintains plant equipment to company standards.

•      Perform needed maintenance at sand and gravel plant to ensure operation.

•      Operate wheel loader to load or stockpile material, or other times when needed.

•      Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Depending on site location, the noise level in the work environment can range from moderate to loud.  Hearing protection will be necessary in loud environments.
