Qualified applicant will:
- Learn in-depth operation and maintenance of movable bridges, to include greasing and lubricating bridge mechanical moving parts
- Perform structural and non-structural concrete removal, preparation, formwork, and placement
- Assist in the repair and preserving of structural steel, to include surface preparation and painting
- Perform general rough carpentry work to assist in repairing and maintaining bridge fender systems and wooden bridge decks
- Assist in rigging operations for material and parts handling
- Assist in installation, maintenance and repair of guardrail and traffic safety devices
- Assist in setting up work zones to ensure safe working environment and provide traffic control to include flagging
- Perform manual labor
- Perform grounds maintenance around bridges and culverts to include mowing, weed control spraying and tree trimming
- Load and operate various types of maintenance and construction equipment and attachments to include:
- Grease guns, painting equipment, hand pumps, pavement breaker, gunite or shotcrete machine, general power hand tools, chainsaw, welding equipment, sandblasting equipment, bucket truck, pontoon boat with outboard mower, boom and zero turn mowers, bobcat, crash cushion truck, crack-sealing machine, forklift, snowplow, dump truck, platform manlift
- Respond to emergent situations such as bridge mechanical breakdowns, hurricane road clearing, and snow/ice control
- Participate in training and skills development in maintenance (methods), construction methods, and equipment operation towards career progression and personal advancement.
- Be comfortable working in the following environments:
- 0-200’ above the water or road surface
- Tight confined spaces
- From a boat
Employee will be trained in fall protection, boat and equipment operation, confined space entry, work zone setup and flagging.
Requires a valid Driver’s License at time of interview. If chosen, position requires a Class B CDL within 6 months of employment. PW Operations offers an in-house CDL training program at no cost to the employee.
