Gunite Foreperson

Summary and Job Scope:

This position provides direct supervision of a gunite crew to ensure that all assigned projects are completed within the scope of the designated specifications for the job and following established principles for the placement of structural concrete. This position is further responsible for ensuring that all work is performed in conformance with all safety and environmental regulations.

Hours: 12-16 +/- hours per day.

Week: 45-50 hours per week, may work up to 50 - 70 hours per week.

Lunch: No designated lunch period, eats as work allows.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Safety
  • Report working on time when scheduled.
  • Directs and controls work schedule provided by plant supervisor or manager.
  • Communicates with plant and contractors with regards to schedule.
  • Determine access for job site and direct equipment, so no damage to property occurs.
  • Direct crew with details of the project to complete task according to blueprint specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience of all positions and able to rotate to that position if seen necessary.
  • Safely operates power equipment.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety standards

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Works under the general direction of the Plant Supervisor for the assigned area of Prestige and directs crew for job completion using appropriate safety standards. Foreman is required to report violations to the Plant Supervisor but does not have authority to impose disciplinary actions.

 

Skills and Job Knowledge Level:

  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the construction industry
  • Working experience is specific to the potential hazards associated with pneumatically applied concrete and the appropriate precautions to ensure job site safety.
  • Working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of all members of a gunite crew.
  • Skill in the operation of the tools and equipment specific to gunite and concrete.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of structural concrete.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints
  • Basic understanding of the fundamental principles of structural concrete.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual task under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively direct the actions of others.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required

 

Education:

No specific or formal education is required for this position; however, a high school diploma or GED is desired.

 

Work Experience:

2+ year(s) of prior gunite or shotcrete experience is required ASA Nozzleman Certification is also not required but is highly desirable.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Foreman Specific with or without CDL
  • Must be able to move freely with no physical restriction(s) with regards to standing, walking, climbing, lifting, bending, kneeling, or reaching overhead.
  • Must be able to push/pull or lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb approximately 6 feet.
  • Must be able to spend at least 85% of the day standing and 25% of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, gravel, wood and metal and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
  • Additional requirements specific to Foreman with CDL
  • To operate and control vehicle must be able to apply clutch foot pressure in a range up to approximately 25 lbs. This motion is required repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Climbs (3) steps (5 ft.) Left leg reaches a distance of 3 -4 feet to access truck cab grab rail while twisting body to translate into the seat. (Reverses on descent) The cycle is repeated up to 25 times or more per day.
  • During Pre-trip and Post-Trip inspections, must climb onto 3 ft. High bumper to access engine compartment.

During Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections, must be able to open and close truck hood with 35 lb pull

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat, wet and humid conditions. The employee regularly works on construction sites where they may be exposed to uneven terrain, unstable soil conditions, and trip hazards. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and in the vicinity of hoses which contain materials that are driven by high air pressure. The employee will be exposed to the noise and dust associated with pneumatically applied concrete and will come into direct contact with the wet concrete product(s). The employee must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety, health, protection of the environment and property.

 

Travel Requirements:

Travel is usually local but may be used at other plants if applicable.

 

Special Needs:

Must be able to utilize personal protective equipment; hard hats, appropriate eye, ear and foot protection, back support belts, gloves, respirators, both disposable and air feeding.

Assists gunite crew with setting up and break down of job site(s) to include protection of the environment, and the surrounding real property.  Provides basic physical labor associated with the placement of concrete, including shoveling/removal of rebound.

  • Report working on time when scheduled.
  • Safely operates power equipment and hand tools while performing all duties in conformance to appropriate safety standards and established principles of structural concrete.
  • Assists gunite crew with a placement of plastic to protect the area surrounding equipment and work areas.
  • Assists gunite crew in setting up / break down of job site tools and equipment
  • Works to ensure that the finished product meets the architectural specification(s)
  • Assists gunite crew with the placement of concrete and rebound removal as directed by the crew foreman.

Skills and Job Knowledge Level:

  • 1+ year(s) of prior construction or concrete related experience
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the construction industry
  • Skill in the operation of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform the heavy manual task under varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of the fundamental principles of structural concrete
