Collection Agent

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a customer service oriented Collection Agent to support the Finance Department and the citizens of Chesapeake for our Emergency Medical Services Billing Division. The successful candidate must be detail oriented and have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Among other duties, the Collection Agent will be responsible for the tasks listed below:
- Provides internal and external customer service by responding and assisting taxpayers with resolution of issues and inquiries concerning delinquent accounts.
- Works denials and front-end rejections from providers/insurance companies.
- Posts debt set-off to patient/customer accounts.
- Posting of payments for delinquent accounts, processing related documents such as statements or returned mail, and updating insurance information per patient request.
- Works patient and insurance bad debt accounts to secure payment on outstanding balances.
- Researches insurance retractions/adjustments based on explanation of benefits received and adjusts accounts as needed as well as calling insurance companies to request reconsideration and instruction.
- Arranges for debt repayment or establishes repayment schedules with taxpayers.
- Offers suggestions to management with ideas to improve customer interaction and streamline processes
