The purpose of this position is to assist individuals who are dual diagnosed and involved in the criminal justice system, seeking appropriate treatment options in order to decrease criminal recidivism and to seek options that support maintaining appropriate mental health and substance abuse treatment. You will also ensure that consumers receive behavioral health screenings, community support linkages and follow up services. This position maintains a tracking system of forensic clients that may require intervention in order to prevent re-arrest or acute care re-hospitalization. You will provide case management services for Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Acquitted and assist the individual in engaging in treatment services.

The successful candidate should possess:
  • Ability to utilize the DMS-V diagnostic criteria and possess knowledge of community resources and linkages to assist the consumer and family members with interventions for the identified issues.
  • A thorough knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders and state statuettes.
  • Ability to recognize, identify and respond to manipulative behavior effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with staff, community agencies and a challenging client population.
  • Ability to instruct inmates in basic information needed to restore competency
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret federal, state and local agency policies, procedures and statues and adhere to State, CIBH and Medicaid requirements for appropriate discharge planning and service documentation.
  • Ability to give and receive consultative feedback on cases in the program and connect the client with appropriate treatment resources.

Typical Tasks Include
  • Monitors progress and community transition for NGRI acquitted who are on court ordered conditional release from state psychiatric hospital.
  • Conducts screening assessments in city and regional jail to determine the need for mental health and drug and alcohol treatment services and make referrals based on screening outcome.
  • Observes, collects and tests urine samples submitted by clients
  • Enters urinalysis results into client's electronic medical record and provides urine test results to clients.
  • Uses a strength based approach to work collaboratively with co-occurring clients to help support treatment team and addiction recovery.
  • Plans with the forensic consumer (&family) for engaging with treatment services and other community services upon discharge/release.
  • Assists city and regional jail staff in ensuring that forensic consumers receive proper linkages to services especially psychiatric services and medication management.
  • Attends court hearings to provide information regarding client drug use to the Court.
  • Attends staff and treatment meetings to provide input on client compliance issues.
  • Provides outpatient competency restoration services in the community or in jail when indicated.
  • Prepares NGRI reports as required by the state office to be placed in the clients chart.
