Payroll Specialist

FINANCE

This position is responsible for processing the weekly in-house payroll for approximately 650 employees utilizing an automated time and attendance system and integrated payroll system in the centralized Payroll Division of Finance. Complies with all involuntary wage assignments, in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations; notifies employee and initiates deductions and disbursement of payments, as required.

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of payroll principals including federal, state, and City laws and regulations, deductions; and benefits that affect the payroll processes.
  • Administers and processes garnishments and other income withholding orders in accordance with federal, state and city regulations.
  • Communicates effectively, provides guidance, and resolves payroll related issues and questions timely.
  • Assists with testing and validating new payroll system enhancements and functions as required.
  • Assists with entering special pays such as bonuses, employee reimbursements, retro and underpayments.
  • Balances and reconciles monthly payroll reports for all voluntary and involuntary deductions.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and demonstrates a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrates good time management skills.
  • Responsible for direct deposit and retirement transmission files; verifies delivery of file and payment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
