Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking a recreation leader that enjoys participating in outdoor recreation and has a passion for working with youth camps to primarily support the department's youth park summer/fall camps, activities will be held at Northwest River Park and other parks and recreational facilitates citywide.
The position will support other youth programs and citywide special events within the City's community centers, facilities and parks which include, various day camp programs. The primary duty is supervising various age groups of children that participate in the programs; related duties include but are not limited to:
Supervises children from ages 6-12 for the day camp program, participating in activities such as canoeing and other water related activities, hiking, nature exploration, crafts, science activities; as well as, assisting with facility supervision.
Plans and participates in activities appropriate for a variety of ages in the programs, primarily in an outdoor environment. Interacts with participants in active and passive games and outdoor recreation activities; ability to make fair game decisions, knowledge of game and safety rules; ability to read directions; and divide children in equal age groups.
Responsible for program and participant safety; inventory control; and set up, take down and clean-up of facility and work areas. Controls the disbursement, collection, storage of equipment and overall site inventory. Organizes site equipment; expresses safety and recreation rules and regulations, demonstrates game and outdoor recreational equipment; makes safe decisions; and interprets directions.
Provides customer service that meets the expectations of the City's Customer Service Initiative to diverse citizen and participant groups of all ages. Responds to inquiries, rule interpretations, and communicates program and event information. Assists with Processing program registrations and collect payments.
Responds to accidents and injuries, may perform basic first aid. Resolves conflicts between children in a calm and orderly manner; report behavior issues to management staff and parents. Submits written reports, of accidents/incidents, equipment and inventory needs, to supervisor in a timely manner. Inspects facilities and play areas for safety/damage, enforces safety rules and regulations and maintains organization.
Utilizes general knowledge of recreational activities including water based activities, athletics, arts and crafts, outdoor games and special events.
May require active participation in field trips, various outdoor recreation and games including hiking, boating, fishing, disc golf, kickball, football, softball, volleyball, along with other active & passive activities and citywide special events.
Requires a degree of mobility which would allow for interaction with children in active and passive games and recreational activities.
Must have ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to use a telephone; read and interpret rules and regulations.
Must have the ability to lift and set up tables and chairs and organize site equipment.
