Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in
facilities management, administration or other relevant field
- Master’s degree

- Valid Texas driver's
license with a good driving record (must meet and maintain liability

Organization
Management
The assistant director
manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through
activities such as the following
- Direct and coordinate multiple
activities of maintenance and custodial personnel engaged in cleaning,
maintaining, and repairing district facilities, equipment, grounds and
utility systems.
- Direct maintenance activities
on utility systems to provide continuous supply of electric power, gas,
water/waste water, and HVAC required for school operations.
- Confer with campus and
departmental administrators to resolve maintenance and custodial problems
and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions.
- Review production, quality
control, and maintenance reports and statistics (Maintenance Management
System) to plan and modify maintenance and custodial operations.
- Plan, develop, and implement new
methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating
costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
- Project, prepare and administer
maintenance budget.
- Review new products and
equipment.
- Review and recommend capital expenditures
for items that will increase efficiency and services of the department.
- Oversee department inventory
and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
- Oversee district assets and
proper disposal methods through auctions or other relevant
sources/programs
Personnel Management
The assistant director
provides oversight and manages personnel through activities such as the
following:
- Supervise the district’s:
- Integrated Pest Management
Plan (IPM)
- Hazardous Materials Plan (Haz
Mat)
- Material Safety Data Sheets
(MSDS)
- Asbestos Management Plan
- Preventative Maintenance Plan
(PM Plan)
- Supervise assistant director,
department coordinators, and administrative personnel
- Recruit, train, and supervise
maintenance and custodial personnel and make sound recommendations about
personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
- Direct training and ongoing
professional development of workers to improve work performance and
acquaint workers with district policies and procedures as well as state
and federal laws and regulations.
- Direct and supervise work
assignments of department personnel and oversee project completion.
- Direct and supervise job
evaluations of department personnel
- Prepare, review, and revise job
descriptions in maintenance department.
- Serve as safety coordinator for
facilities and work with emergency personnel during and after emergencies
or disasters
- Maintain safety standards in
conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulation
- Ensure permits for departments
are up to date
- Ensure that equipment is
maintained and operating in optimum conditions

- Monitor contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with district policy relating to campus, staff, and student safety while performing services or repairs for the district.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
- Maintain emotional control under stress and work with frequent interruptions.
- Repetitive hand motions,
prolonged sitting, and prolonged use of computer.
- Work irregular and extended
work hours to include holidays and weekends.
- May require moderate standing,
stooping, bending, lifting, walking, climbing, pulling, pushing, reaching,
moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Work indoors and outdoors to
conduct on-site inspections of all district facilities and construction
projects.
- Frequent district wide and
occasional statewide travel.
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
