Family Services Supervisor - Foster Care/Independent Living

Chesapeake is seeking a seasoned professional to join the team as a supervisor in a growing team of child welfare professionals.

The perfect candidate will demonstrate an ability to identify items of importance amongst competing priorities. They will demonstrate knowledge of Va Dept. of Social Services’ policies regarding foster care. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will work seamlessly with direct care staff, other supervisors and colleagues within and outside of the department. The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Supervises Family Service Workers and support staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.
  • Oversees the Independent Living program to include curriculum for youth ages 14-21 years old preparing for independence; maintain the Independent Living budget lines; identify goal and implement procedures to program objectives.
  • Monthly supervision with team members assessing professional needs/growth and staffing caseloads
  • Responsible for monthly random case reviews to ensure the Permanency Team is always audit ready
  • Oversees the Resource/Foster Parent - Kinship Parent program to include recruitment, retention, support groups, PRIDE training/ongoing training
  • Conducts interviews or investigations and makes client/resident and family assessments; formulates and implements plan of action; documents progress.
  • Interacts/coordinates with other agencies, organizations, or the courts to provide services for clients/residents.
  • Oversees, reviews, and approves expenditures for assigned area; provides fiscal data for preparation of annual budgets; ensures timely payment of accounts payable.
  • Gathers and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for area of responsibility.
  • Participates in development and implementation of policy and procedures for area of responsibility; interprets same for staff as needed.
  • Maintains record system for area of responsibility; processes daily paperwork including reports, documents, memos, and personnel information.
  • Serves as information resource for clients/residents, students, and professionals.
  • Monitors program compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations, and laws; monitors referrals and notifications.
  • Serves as emergency duty on-call Supervisor.
  • Attends or conducts staff, committee, team, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional seminars or conferences to improve professional skills.
