We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Automotive Technician (Mechanic) to join our award-winning team. The successful candidate will perform repairs, routine maintenance, and statutory inspections to the City’s diverse fleet of automotive vehicles and equipment.
Class A CDL is required for this position and training is provided by the city at no cost to employees. The twenty-hour mandatory behind the wheel time is conducted while on the clock…get paid to train! Vehicles for DMV road testing are also provided.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair gas, diesel, AutoGas (propane) battery electric and hybrid automotive vehicles and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on gas, diesel, AutoGas (propane) battery electric and hybrid automotive vehicles and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as tune-ups, brakes and fuel system services, electrical and lighting system repairs and changing tires.
- Perform major repairs such as engine overhaul, transmission repair and service and repair of complex sub-assemblies. May perform vehicle modifications such as installing or removing special equipment, lighting packages or other modifications.
- Perform Virginia safety inspections.
- Perform post-pursuit inspections on public safety vehicles.
- Prepare documentation such as work order notes, repairs completed, parts used, repair cost, and other information.
- Provide advice, training and assistance to vehicle operators as necessary.
- The selected Automotive Technician (Mechanic) candidate will perform other related duties as assigned.
