Summary

 

The National Account Manager will be responsible for prospecting, growing, and prospecting all aspects of the Sales & Merchandising activities in a specified account base to include national retailers for the Full Moon, Spot Farms and Flockleader brands.  This includes opening new retailer doors and potentially new channels for the Perdue Pet brands. This manager is the "top to top" contact and communicator between the Company and the accounts for which he/she is responsible. This leadership position will need to understand the key tenets of national account management, which include but are not limited to:  Category Management, ROI of trade programs, fact based selling, relationship building, broker management/discovery and budgeting/forecasting within the Perdue system.  The right candidate will bring an extensive network of industry contacts at key retailers and broker partners and will have extensive knowledge of the Farm & Feed and Hardward channels.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Develops and implements a National Account sales plan to include all divisions within the account. Attains all budgeted product line volumes, price, mix and share levels. Prepares and presents business reviews and new items.  Monitors daily, weekly, quarterly and YTD relevant customer metrics.
  • Implements and champions procedures to continuously improve the accuracy of the Demand Plan forecast. 
  • Manages all expense budgets including staffing, overhead and programs. Manages the utilization of the TPM system to input and monitor customer programs to control spending and attain results.
  • Works cross-functionally with Marketing, Operations, QA, Supply Chain & Executive Management to ensure effective communication and problem solving.  The National Account Manager is a member of a team and, as such, must work in coordination with all stakeholders for optimal outcomes for the Company and the customer.
  • Partner with VP of Sales to achieve short-term goals and develop long-term strategies for all assigned accounts.
  • Travel, as needed or up to 20%, to store and club locations to stay abreast of the marketplace, attend trade shows, and visit customers.  

Minimum Education and Experience

 

REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or related field.  10 years of progressive experience in national retailer management to include: brand strategy, marketing, sales, customer experience. 

 

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience and knowledge specific to the pet industry/products. 
  • Experience in solely managing large national retailers for either the Pet Specialty channel or Food, Drug and Mass retailers. 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, set and meet business commitments.
  • Ability to proactively identify business issues and develop and implement successful programs to grow the brand profitably.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.  
  • P&L understanding with strong quantitative analysis skills to make “fact based” strategic recommendations and decisions.

 

 

PREFERRED:   Master’s Degree/MBA

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which metal and plastic grating surfaces.  May be exposed to temperatures of 28  degree to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.  May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.  May be exposed to noise ranged of 50 db to 100 db.  May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.  Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job a s directed by the Company.
