Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking a dynamic, experienced individual who enjoys working with the community to be primarily responsible for overseeing and executing athletic programing for youth and adult sports programs such as volleyball, football, field hockey, basketball, soccer and cheerleading youth leagues along with, adult basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball leagues.

These programs, events, field and gym rentals are scheduled at various recreational centers, fields and other facility locations within the City of Chesapeake duties include but are not limited to:

These programs, events, field and gym rentals are scheduled at various recreational centers, fields and other facility locations within the City of Chesapeake duties include but are not limited to:
Provides customer service to program participants, coaches, volunteers, officials, spectators and citizens that meets the expectations of the City’s Customer Service Initiative while following set customer service standards. Provides information to the public regarding Athletic activities, events, programs, and other related general information regarding Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
Interacts with the public and other agencies, in person, by telephone, email and social media to obtain and provide information in a variety of circumstances with discretion and professionalism. Responds to inquiries and complaints provides information on policies and procedures. Resolves conflicts between players, coaches, volunteers, external associations and partners, officials, and spectators in a calm and orderly manner; maintains order and follows up on conflicts, and procedural issues and submits reports to management.
Serves as a lead supervisor responsible for ensuring applicable rules and policies are followed. Supervises personnel, including interviewing, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling and coaching as appropriate. Reviews and approves work hours, time off requests, develops and maintains work schedules of assigned personnel. Maintains personnel, timekeeping, and attendance records. Assists independent contractors with programing and participant customer service opportunities.
Coordinates with Chesapeake Tourism, external athletic associations and other special interest groups to bring in regional and national athletic events to Chesapeake and act as a direct liaison for these events.
Assists with developing short and long-term strategic goals pertaining to planning, development, and operational processes for all athletic programming, both revenue and non-revenue based. Assists with planning, implementing, and overseeing athletic programs; assists with other recreational programs as needed. Develops or assists with development and implements policy and procedures as well as rental programs and activities.
Reviews and negotiates contracts, and approves reports, invoices, and payroll; authorizes and schedules rental requests for various facilities.
Oversees volunteer recruitment activities, disburses related forms, rules and regulations, program information and advertising materials. Leads, supervises and oversees program volunteers, and contractual service individuals within programs.
Creates marketing strategies including brochures, flyers, community sponsorships and partnerships to effectively advertise and support athletic programs.
Monitors programs participants, fields, community center and recreational facilities, enforces rules and regulations related to safety, scheduling, facility rentals, and facility usage. Administers athletic rules and policies for softball, soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, cheerleading, community centers and other recreational activities as necessary. Works closely with various athletic associations and groups.
Responds to accidents and injuries, may perform basic first aid. Submits written reports, of accidents/incidents, equipment and inventory needs, to supervisor in a timely manner.
Performs basic safety checks on recreational rental equipment issued to participants, reports possible safety issues to supervisor.
Oversees program registrations, participant evaluations and team organization. Use computer daily, utilizing Microsoft Office for reports, letters, spreadsheets and flyers and ActiveNet Recreation Software to input and facilitate class registrations, memberships and facility reservations. Responsible for the collection and accounting of city revenue and completing all written reports to ensure proper accounting procedures are followed.
Controls the disbursement, collection, storage of athletic equipment and inventory, assists with coordinating athletic maintenance, and repairs, monitors and maintains athletic uniforms, supplies and equipment. Maintains inventory records and assists with budgeting and the purchasing of recreational equipment, materials and supplies.
Assists in the preparation and set-up/breakdown of athletic fields and facilities, organizes site equipment, set-up various athletic equipment such as flags, field markers, nets, goals, base plug-ins, benches and other related athletic equipment. Assists with set up and taking down of tables, chairs, fencing, barricades, pop up tents, and various other indoor and outdoor recreational equipment.
Makes presentations to City organizations and groups to inform citizens of available programs, activities, and special events. Interacts with a number of cosponsored and private organizations and coordinates outside origination partnerships that provide community athletic programing.
