Recreation Specialist II

Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is seeking a Recreation Specialist II for the Historical Services Division who is experienced, and is a highly motivated team player that has a passion for historical preservation and programing.
The primary responsibilities of the Historical Recreation Specialist are to supervise staff and/or plan, develop, schedule, and assist with interpretive and preservation activities and operations for historic assets in the City. The position is responsible for staff supervision and/or program development and monitoring, training, equipment and supplies, and reporting. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
The Recreation Specialist plans, researches, develops, schedules, implements, and monitors revenue and non-revenue producing interpretive and educational programs, tours, exhibitions, workshops, preservation activities, and special events. Performs grant research and assists in grant writing at local, state, and federal levels.
The Recreation Specialist interacts with the public in person and by telephone to provide information, and handle requests, concerns, and complaints relating to historical facilities, research, or preservation. Provide guidance to interested parties on how best to connect with preservation or history professionals.
Conducts registrations for programs; records and deposits monies collected; recruits, trains, certifies, and supervises and trains volunteers in appropriate classifications.
Supervises staff, including interviewing, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, and disciplining; assists in hiring and supervising independent contractors and vendors.

Oversees and monitors expenditures for archival storage and preservation supplies and services; provides fiscal data for preparation of the annual budget; prepares financial forms and reports. Gathers and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for area of responsibility, including condition assessments of historic assets and collections.
Conducts periodic inspections of historic structures and artifacts to ensure compliance with safety and preservation standards; Conducts specialized cleaning, environmental monitoring, and integrated pest management of collections storage and exhibition areas. Maintains record and inventory system for historic assets and collections; processes daily paperwork including reports, requisitions, and personnel information.
Develops and determines marketing strategies to promote programs, tours, exhibitions, and special events; prepares informational publications for the general public.
Reviews, recommends, and enforces policy and procedures related to collections care and preservation.
Attends or conducts staff, committee, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional training classes or seminars to improve professional skills.
