Chesapeake Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is seeking a customer service oriented and dependable individual to perform essential services for the citizens of Chesapeake as an Equipment Operator II.

The equipment operator II position is responsible for operating specialized motor equipment, power tools and hand tools to support the maintenance operations of all parks grounds sites, and other city facilities, this includes routine and skilled tasks such as, but not limited to: grading, digging, turf maintenance, mowing and trimming of turf, landscaping, planting, athletic field renovation and prep, weeding, fertilizing, pruning trees and shrubs, removing and installing park amenities, removing trees, removing stumps, trunks and roots, removing dead vegetation and wood debris, littler control, topdressing, mowing, aeration, edging, mulching, spraying, painting and perform various repairs.

Other duties for the Equipment Operator II included but are not limited too:

The individual selected for this position will provide exceptional internal and external customer service and will respond to service requests and inquires, as directed by supervisor that meets the expectations of the City’s Customer Service Initiative.

Operates dump truck, front-end loader, specialized mowers, backhoe, topdresser, small grader, commercial riding mowers, and farm-type tractor with implements to complete tasks.

Performs minor maintenance and report malfunctions and damages to supervisor; will perform repairs, construction, inspections, maintenance and custodial duties of City facilities, park amenities, fixtures, signs, tents, walkways, roads, turf, and parking areas.

Equipment Operator II assists with the routine maintenance and repairs of various fencing, trails, bridges, structures, nursey, barn, greenhouse; performs safety inspections and work on parking lots, municipal and recreational facilities, special event sites, and sidewalks, and completes required repairs as necessary, to ensure the safety of citizens, employees and visitors.

Picks up all litter and trash, empties all trashcans, at all assigned sites; and may perform routine custodial duties to include cleaning and stocking restrooms, and other facilities.

Works closely with other City Departments, and various outside associations, partnering to ensure a top quality, citywide recreational programs that serves Chesapeake’s diverse population and guests; may work with and lead diverse volunteer groups at the direction of the Arboretum Manager.

May perform event preparations to include setting up tents, barricades, and other recreational equipment. may assist with contract specifications, monitors and inspects contractor performed work to ensure compliance.
