Engineering Technician II

The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of an Engineering Technician II in our Facilities Construction Division. The Facilities Construction Division is responsible for the planning, programming, design and construction of Capital Budget projects related to buildings, parks and other facilities.
This position responds to project management staff tasks for design and construction oriented work. Includes coordinated activities with personnel from field, and office as needed. Activities will also include coordination with utility, professional design firms and construction contractors. Prepares, maintains, and tracks project correspondence including invoices, construction administration files. To provide assistance to the project managers in the Facilities Construction Division and performs responsible technical work consisting of a variety of engineering and related assignments.
The ideal candidate is one who has excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; strong verbal and writing skills; strong customer service skills and time management; a problem solver; and enjoys working as part of a team alongside lead project management staff throughout each project. Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
- Provide for the general support of the project management staff to include construction cost estimating, CADD drafting, file maintenance, project field work and inspections coordination of the review and tracking of the monthly design/construction related invoices. Provide spreadsheets for the tracking necessary for validity of payments of the design task or construction items as related to the engineering consultant or the construction plans
- Coordinate and assist with maintaining file documents for elements of project design and construction administration
- Review, maintain, and track construction scheduling
- Assist the project managers and design engineers with project related consultants, contractors, and operations staff with project inquiries and related tasks such as assisting with preparing and maintaining various reports and records
