Director of Fleet Maintenance (Salisbury, MD, US, 21804)

Summary

To manage, optimize and leverage fleet maintenance operations and garages nationally for the Company including PTI, live haul, etc.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and manage the fleet maintenance staff to include hiring, training, and developing and growth of the staff to meet the needs of the department. Leverage private fleet as a competitive advantage while determining lowest cost provider of in-side provided fleet maintenance vs. outsourcing.

Ensure safe working conditions, practices and overall advocate for safety culture for all associates.   

Ensure all fleet maintenance facilities are in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety requirements.

Develop and manage and continuously improve fleet preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure they meet the needs of the Company.

Develop and manage the fleet maintenance annual budget.

Manage the Maintenance Management system.

Conduct fleet evaluations and audits to ensure maintenance standards are attained. Benchmark with industry, associations, standards to assess performance, efficiency, and results.

Work with Fleet Maintenance to spec all tractors, trucks, and trailers purchased each year and balance with life cycle management and overall asset replacement strategy.

Maintain current knowledge in fleet maintenance advancements by representing the Company at industry activities. 

Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.

 

 

 

Minimum Education

BS Degree (Logistics, Transportation, Business Management) MS Degree Preferred    

Experience Requirements

  • Understanding of private fleet maintenance operations, procedures, and success criteria

  • Understanding of DOT regulations

  • Robust cross-functional collaboration skill set with other functions, i.e.: finance, operations, manufacturing, transportation, safety

  • TRU, cold chain and food safety knowledge and expertise

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Able to build pipeline of innovation and efficiency tactics to drive enhanced results

  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of alternative energy fuels in transportation

  • Understanding of standard software applications

Experience Preferred

15 – 20 years Related Experience

Decision Making Responsibilities

Routine decisions within the scope of the job responsibilities.  All other decisions referred to supervisor. Economic modeling capabilities to calculate ROI, feasibility and net impact to the P&L.
