We have an exciting opportunity for a Grain Merchandising Intern in Salisbury, MD. Perdue's 10-week Summer internship program is designed to combine knowledge learned in the classroom with meaningful, real-world experiences.
Our Grain Merchandising intern will be responsible for marketing grain into the domestic market. To assist in the negotiation and purchase and/or sale of grain into the marketplace. To provide customer service and support to ensure price-competitive and timely delivery of products internationally. Coordinate the administrative and logistics programs related to domestic sales.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist senior merchandisers with the purchase and sale of grain into the domestic market
- Coordinate the administrative and logistical requirements necessary to export grain
- Prepare various reports
- Create and maintain vessel and container files
- Place bookings and communicate shipping instructions to the freight forwarder
- Coordinate with treasury regarding payments received and payments outstanding
- Work with senior merchandiser to troubleshoot and resolve accounts receivable issues
- Audit and perform contract maintenance regarding open balances, closing balances, rolls, etc
Minimum Education
- Junior or Senior currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree at an accredited university in a relevant field of study
- 3.0 GPA or higher
Experience Requirements
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- May be required to travel to other facilities and plants for meetings and/or business
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship is required
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another. May need to access files, supplies and equipment
- When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db.
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing facility
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. May need to climb ladders
