Albemarle County Department of Social Services is looking for candidates who are interested in becoming part of an inclusive, high-performing team as a Sr Eligibility Worker in the Adult Benefits Unit. Performs responsible professional and technical work involving management of a benefits program caseload, respecting the broader needs of individual clients and their families. Performs specialized duties of unusual difficulty in eligibility work; performs with less supervision and serves as lead worker. Performs as a role model to the values of the County and department, and inspires others to embrace the values, vision and goals of the County and department. Articulates, supports and applies the high performance practices (continual quality and service improvements, participatory involvement, teamwork, data collection and analysis) of the department. Supports the development of staff by mentoring, coaching and providing one-to-one or group learning. Influences others by example and by persuasion to commit to County, department and unit goals.
May perform all typical tasks of an Eligibility Worker as described in the Eligibility Worker job description; May perform generic or specialized duties of unusual difficulty in Eligibility work; Monitors case records for accurate computation and policy application; Assists workers with policy interpretation; May coordinate work flow and case management activities of unit eligibility workers; May plan/assist with staff development, including policy training and new employee orientation; Provides Supervisor with information about unit's performance, and may provide input into job performance evaluations; May back up the unit Supervisor as needed; Performs duties with less supervision; Trains others as needed; May serve as lead worker supervising up to four Eligibility Workers and/or support staff; May be required to support local disaster response/emergency operations and other duties related to the delivery of services, including serving as a Shelter Manager.
