Engineering Technical Supervisor
PUB UTIL TECHNICAL
Public Utilities seeks a conscientious, energetic leader with experience in underground utility locating and construction projects to lead a dedicated group of professional utility locators, construction inspectors, and cross-connection inspectors.
A successful candidate must be able to make sound engineering decisions based on contract documents, design standards, and local, state & federal laws; clearly communicate with project engineers and contractors to support the completion of projects on schedule and within budget; develop and maintain professional relationships with the public, various City departments to include the City Manager and City Council, external agencies, and regulators.
To excel in this position, a candidate should:
- be proficient in reading, reviewing, and understanding contract plans and specifications with a focus on constructability and providing solutions to challenges encountered prior to and during construction.
- Furthermore, this position serves as the VA811 Administrator for Chesapeake, responsible for replying to underground utility locating requests, coordinating responses, and resolving locating issues.
- Serving in this capacity requires a working knowledge of the Damage Prevention Act.
-As a supervisor this position is responsible for the training, coaching, hiring, and personnel-related activities associated with leading the division.
Other administrative responsibilities of this position include investigating damages to Public Utilities and preparing reports for submission to the State Corporation Commission, verification of acceptance testing, and processing construction invoices.

This is an Alpha position, and employees may be expected to work in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to localized and City-wide emergencies.
